It is easy to believe that infertility treatment is strictly a modern day science made possible through the application of state of the art reproductive techniques. Many couples however are now turning to acupuncture and Traditional Chinese medicine for help. At the same time many high tech reproductive specialists are looking to the world of Chinese medicine to help patients especially when western techniques cannot get results.
The benefits of acupuncture and Traditional Chinese medicine in the treatment of infertile couples can be found in early Chinese medical literature dating back to around the 11th century A.D. Although this system of medicine dates back many thousands of years it is as effective as any other medical techniques used in the world today.
With one in eight couples finding themselves unable to conceive many women nowadays ultimately consider in vitro fertilization in their attempts to start a family. Recently research has shown that the chances of having a successful and healthy pregnancy can be maximized by combining Western medicine and Chinese medicine. In fact a recent German study found that using acupuncture in conjunction with In Vitro fertilization (IVF) achieved a 42% clinical pregnancy rate compared to the control group that achieved 26%. The study consisted of giving acupuncture shortly before and after embryo transfer.
